Moonlight review

October 2025 & January 2026

I enjoyed two wonderful periods at the villa, and as a runner recovering from a slight ankle injury, I was especially grateful for the peaceful setting.

The beautiful pool, stunning grounds, and breath-taking views instantly melted away my stress.

The calm atmosphere and proper rest played a huge role in my recovery.

The overriding feeling, I had was that, within minutes of being shown around, I simply felt at home. It didn’t feel like staying in a hotel or rental property — it genuinely felt like I had arrived home. It’s hard to explain in words, but it was a deeply comforting and special feeling.

Billy the butler — what an absolute gem! Not only did he prepare delicious vegan meals, but he also provided fantastic massage treatments using heated therapy techniques. Within just one day, my ankle felt significantly better. His care, skill, and kindness truly made a difference. Thank you, Billy.

During my stay, I asked Al if he could show me a few of the beaches he had mentioned, and he couldn’t have been more accommodating. He offered transport by car, tuk-tuk, or scooter, and I chose the scooter. He rode confidently and safely, even in what can sometimes be challenging local traffic conditions. Along the way, he stopped at scenic spots and walked with me along beautiful beaches, making the experience truly special.

One long beach we visited was Koggala Beach, which I highly recommend. He also took me to Dalawella Beach, where I had the amazing experience of swimming with turtles — something I will never forget. One trip we did was to visit monks at a temple which was lovely as was the scenic drive going there.

Both Al and Billy were wonderful company, and I enjoyed every moment with them. The cooking sessions were a real highlight, and one day Al even played badminton and table tennis with me, as a gentle means of exercising my ankle  — a perfect day filled with swimming, laughter, the company of the dogs, and plenty of fun.

Speaking of the dogs, there are four wonderful dogs at the villa who are absolutely amazing. The two boys are very chilled and relaxed, often barely lifting an eyelid, while the two younger girls are full of energy and fun. They even joined me in the pool, which was just incredible and added so much joy to my stay.

I highly recommend staying here. The villa is absolutely breath taking — a peaceful hidden gem in southern Sri Lanka. The kitchen is huge and stunning, complete with a stunning beautiful chandelier. One evening, Al surprised me by setting up lunch and dinner in the courtyard, which was such a thoughtful and special touch.

The Peacock bedroom is incredibly spacious, and the shower room was exactly what I needed. I also loved choosing from the excellent selection of DVDs and enjoying a relaxing movie night. Every detail of my stay was exceptional, and I truly cannot wait to return.
